YA Wednesday: YA Set in Ireland, YA for Women’s History Month, Books I Wish I’d Read as an LGBTQ Teenager, Letter to a Young Reader, Families We’d Love to Join

This winter I’ve been reading about serial killers, Arctic explorers pulling themselves up from deep ice crevasses only to die of starvation, and artists and lawyers wallowing in misery while living in million dollar apartments.

But now that it’s almost spring and the stores are stocked with chocolate eggs and marshmallow Peeps, I’m trying to cultivate my sunshine and unicorns side. My black cat Salem, who ran off in a thunderstorm and never returned, used to behead Peeps, but I’m not going to go there. Seriously, or rather happily, here are some YA links to make you smile.

• Few things make me happier than seeing a friend’s book get recognition. Lithub’s Books I Wish I’d Read as an LGBTQ Teenager gives a much-deserved shout out to fellow Novel Incubator alum Jennie Wood’s YA novel, A Boy Like Me.
• This Letter to a Young Reader offers such wise advice as, “Those cocktail parties you imagine you’ll go to when you grow up, where you’ll be expected to quote Proust while swilling 20-year-old Scotch? They don’t exist.” Actually, I still believe in those cocktail parties, along with unicorns and sunshine.
• These 6 Families from Literature We’d Love to Join sound pretty awesome except for the Stark family in A Game of Thrones. Seriously? Not my idea of togetherness unless you’re my missing cat and like beheading.
